Viet Sub Vietnamese Cuisine-My first Vietnamese sub

As I have mentioned in a few previous posts, I am allergic to beef. For this reason, I seldom visit a Vietnamese restaurant (I know I can order chicken, but what's the point of ordering chicken in a Vietnamese restaurant?).

However, EU suggested to give Viet Sub a try last night. Viet Sub? I know what a Viet sub is but I've never had one before. While I was wondering about my "beef concern", EU said they offer chicken as well as Vietnamese ham. So, Viet Sub off we go...

The weather was chilly this afternoon. They served us hot teas right after we finished to order :)

Vietnamese Ham w/ French Bread-5.5/6
  • $3.25
  • Vietnamese ham, onions, (slightly pickled) turnips, cucumbers and carrots served with two sauces, topped with cilantro and some salt and pepper
  • The sauces taste like terriyaki sauce and sesame sauce. From the picture above, the light-orange colour sauce (on the left side of the bread) is the sesame sauce; the brownish one on the right side is the terriyaki sauce. They have pepper and a nutty flavour. Also they give a hint of sourness and sweetness to the bread. I like how the two sauces mixed well together; they taste yummy!
  • Maybe because this is my first time having Vietnamese subs, I find the french bread really amazing! It is crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Yes, it will be pretty messy to eat the sub, like the one I had in Finch's Tea & Coffee House.

  • Carrots, cucumbers and the onions taste fresh. They are crunchy; I especially like the flavour of the onions.
  • The Vietnamese ham is underneath all the colourful ingredients. It is not very tasty but has a mild salty flavour.

I really like Viet Sub and will sure come back to try their other subs.

After today's experience, EU and I decide to try Green Lemongrass' (on Westminster Hwy) subs in the future! :D

  2. Oh yes, I know what you're talking about. I am a fan of certain pickled food as well, but not pickled carrots and cucumbers.
I didn't really pay attention to the carrots and cucumbers though...I can only remember the freshness of the onions! But I think the pickled carrots can be a bit more sour for my liking! :P

  3. I know, you're totally into pickled...PLUMS! (right?) Aside from pickled carrots, I wish they had pickled cucumbers as well... Anyway before we revisit Viet Sub, let's go try Hue Cafe's viet sub first! ;D

  4. Ohh yea. And also THE pickles! I mean the ones that you normally see in the Western sandwiches; the green ones rmb?
I did think abt Hue on No.3; but their subs do not look that good tho. I saw some photos from Urbanspoon; seems like they don't give a generous amount of fillings :/
