Miku Restaurant-Pink!

Before starting this post, I should give some credits to EU for finding different restaurants and good deals these days. Honestly, I would not have started a blog until she suggested me to start one because I have so many food photos.

I always spend time on Urbanspoon and Twitter, but still I've missed some of the good restaurants in Vancouver.

Miku Restaurant is no exception. EU saw Miku's tweet two days ago about their Hanami Box. So, she asked me to go check it out and made a reservation.

After spending a lazy afternoon in Finch's Tea & Coffee House, we went to Pacific Centre, did some shopping and spent some time there before going to Miku.

Food: 5
Price: 4
Services: 6
Ambiance: 6
Overall: 5
  • Japanese fusion restaurant
  • Modern interior design
  • Mon-Fri 11:30am-10pm Sat 5pm-10pm
  • Closed on Sundays
  • Afternoon tapas available (Limited menu) Mon-Fri 3pm-5pm
  • Nice and friendly services (2 Japanese chefs came and helped EU and me to take pictures. Also, we were warmly greeted by the restaurant manager, Erica, and other staffs. I'm glad Erica still remember the tweet. Haha :))
  • Staffs are helpful; they make sure you are helped and are satisfied with the food.
We didn't really look read the menu because we have already decided to try their Hanami box.

Hanami Box-5/6
  • $20
  • Served in an authentic Japanese wooden box with four selection of dishes
  • Nicely presented. I got exicted just by simply looking at the way they served.
  • I don't know why but this box reminds me of pink/cherry blossom.

Futomaki-5/6

  • Sushi rice filled with cucumber, crab meat, tamago (egg), burdock and pink cod sugar
  • I like the pink cod sugar. It's not too sweet, has a gritty texture and goes well with the rice.
  • Every thing is nicely done. The sushi rolls are wrapped tightly, the rice has that vinegar flavour, and the portion of the rice and ingredients are equal.
Avocado Tempura with Sakura Ebi Sauce-n/a
  • Sorry I tried a little bit of the avocado tempura because I'm TOTALLY not a fan of avocado.
  • I did try the Sakura Ebi sauce though. It is a thick sauce with tiny dried shrimps.
  • The shrimps are crunchy and the sauce is not salty. The flavour is right for my liking.

Goma Tofu-6/6

  • House-made sesame tofu with a pink syrup
  • It starts off with a tip of gree on top. I thought it was wasabi at first, but EU said it's made of beans.
  • This is our favourite dish among the four. It is kind of like a dessert but it's not overly sweet.
  • It got that sesame flavour, which I really like it.
  • The texture is here! It is dense and you can enjoy every bit as long as you want. Yum!
  • Because the flavour of the tofu is not really strong (remember it's made of sesame), the pink syrup gives the tofu a hint of sweetness.
  • It's hard to tell from the photo that the syrup is in pink colour, but it looked really pretty when it was presented to us :)

Chiku-Zenni-4.5/6
  • Traditional Japanese stew with burdock, lotus root, fishcake, green beans and daikon
  • The soup actually tastes like the Chinese lotus root soup
  • Overall, all ingredients have got that flavour from the soup.

Saba Bo Sushi-3.5/6

  • $15 (for 6pcs)
  • House cured saba rolled with ginger & charcoal seared
  • One of the Chef's Recommendations
  • I will like the saba remains a little raw on the sushi (I mean 1/2 seared)
  • The ginger between the rice and the saba are somewhat overwhelming. It has covered the taste of the rice and the saba. Thus, I tried to eat them in layers ;D
  • The sushi rice tastes really good. It is seared on the sides and has that herbed flavour.

After we ordered the Saba Bo Sushi, a staff came and told us we should also try their Aburi Salmon Oshi Sushi. However, our stomachs were already running out of space. So we decided to try it next time.

Going to Miku Restaurant is a nice try despite its comparatively high prices. But I really like the atmosphere, the services, and the effort they have put into making those pretty looking dishes.

  1. Aww, it's my pleasure! I'll continue to look for more interesting, yummy, and of course healthy places. Btw, I was really impressed by the Hanami Box. Remeber I said I'm afraid they'll muddle thru the promotional item. But the presentation and taste both turned out really great! :D

  2. $22?! That looks expensive, specially considering that their Miku Zen lunch box is about the same price, has similar items but also includes their aburi sushi. But, it is not "pink themed"...

The tempura was served in a broth? If that was the case, didn't that end up mushy? Wondering...

  3. Hi KimHo,
I'm not sure about Miku's lunch because this is my first visit. But I will sure give it a try next time (when there's enough cash in my pocket). Haha :)
I wonder whether serving the tempura in a broth is a fusion way to handle it.
But since I only tried a tiny piece of the tempura,I can't really tell whether it tastes good or not.

    Hi EU,
I was impressed by their Hanami Box as well. I like how they handle the presentation and the taste in a delicate and fancy way.
We sure have to check out more restaurants in Vancouver! I'm sure there are still lots of Hole-in-the-wall! ;)

  4. Great review! I love Miku.

You must try the Salmon Oshi Sushi - its divine - they top it with a lovely creamy sauce, flame sear then top with fiery slice of jalapeno.
